1.What is BSL?
British Sign Language, or BSL, is a type of communication that adheres to its own grammatical rules utilising hand movements and shapes as well as facial expressions to convey a message rather than using words.

2.Who uses BSL?
People who are deaf or hard of hearing as well as the relatives or partners of those individuals are the most common users of BSL.

3.What is BSL used for?
BSL is used to provide the deaf and hard of hearing with a facility to communicate with those with hearing ability.

4.In what environment is BSL typically used?
BSL is used in both public and private sectors. There are between 30,000 and 70,000 people in the UK for whom BSL is the primary method of communication; meaning that it is likely to be found in a multitude of public and private situations where the need prevails.

5.Why would I need to make use of BSL?
If you or your organisation has the need to engage with individuals who are deaf or who have severe hearing difficulties, it is likely that you will need to make use of BSL.

6.What are the benefits of using BSL?
If a member of your organisation is deaf or hard of hearing, a method of communication will need to be found to enable that individual to understand imnportant information that needs to be imparted to them.

With the aid of our BSL interpreters, all of whom are CACDP (The Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People) accredited, a facility will be provided for a channel of discussion to be opened where it previously might not have been possible.
